For the first time in 19 years, Strathclyde University Boat Club will be competing at Henley Royal Regatta. It is hoped that two crews will compete in The Prince Albert Challenge Cup which is an event for the academic coxed fours boat category, meaning that only students may compete in this event.
The prestigious event, which runs from the 29th of June until the 3rd of July and is held at Henley-on-Thames is the pinnacle of the summer season for the eight rowers and two coxes. The run up has involved weeks of training multiple times a day, as well as travelling down south to compete in regattas which are used in the pre-qualification process.
The two crews have proved their worth against similarly ranked crews in Scotland, with the A crew finishing second, only behind a crew from Edinburgh University, in the Open Coxed Fours category at the recent Scottish Rowing Championships.
The Senior Men would like to thank coach Graeme Dreghorn for his dedication towards the Senior Men’s Squad in the preparation for Henley Royal Regatta, which has been a year-round campaign.
We wish the best of luck to the following members representing Strathclyde University Boat Club at this year’s Henley Royal Regatta: Jack Burns, Euan Marshall, Findlay Ralley, Jan Swedlow, Rebecca Vaslet, Edward Ayton, David Allison, Hans Fjell, Calum Young and Helena Watson.
